We took a massive summer vacation this year. Due to some family events in Wisconsin that I did not want to miss, we ended up flying to Wisconsin for two weeks, then Utah for a week, and then back to Wisconsin for a long weekend.
Our flight to Wisconsin was at 7am, which means we were up at 4! Ouch! Thankfully, the kids traveled well. My parents met us in Minneapolis and helped me with the three hour drive to their house. Later that day, we went to the Eau Claire Dells to walk around and played in the freezing water! I have no clue how I water-skied in that water!
Thursday, we played around the house. Ashton got to take a few "tractor" rides on the riding lawn mower. We went to the splash pad in town as well as rode the little train they have.
Friday was spent driving to the Wisconsin Dells. This is a huge tourist town and is known for America's largest waterpark, Noah's Ark. I grew up visiting this place often and it brought back lots of memories. We went to the Dells for the weekend because my sister was running her first ultra-marathon and we wanted to come cheer her on. Friday night, we went swimming and had a grill out with my parents and sister at their RV site.
Saturday was race day. The race started at 5:30am so needless to say, we didn't catch my sister at the start. We saw her for the first time at mile 25 and then again at the finish. Ashton was excited to see Trescha and to run with her. After the race, we headed to the Wisconsin Deer Park and the kids got to feed lots of deer.
On Sunday, the kids and I went to church. It was a small building in Baraboo but I guess they had a lot of visitors because the entire chapel was full. Tanner sat with me through the sacrament, which was a rare treat. After church, I met my family at Circus World. This was Ashton's favorite part of the trip. We saw the tiger show and the circus show. Later that night, we swam at the pool near my parent's campsite and had dinner with them.
Monday was our day to travel back to Wausau. Before that, we headed to a country farm/berry picking/petting farm. It was just me and the kids and it was a perfect activity to do alone. We picked lots of berries and played with their activities. Then we drove back to Wausau and Tanner treated me by sleeping the whole way!
Tuesday and Wednesday were spent hanging out in Wausau. We attended a story time at the library that ended up being a Yo-Yo presentation. Ashton lasted about five minutes. We also spent some time at the children's museum. One afternoon, I took the kids to a local pool to swim as it was hot out.
Thursday, my mom had the day off so we went to a local farm and played with all the animals. The kids loved it and had no fear around any of the animals (even the raccoon in the animal trap). That afternoon, my mom watched the kids while I got my hair cut. I really like a stylist in Wausau so I try to do this each year.
Saturday, we went up north to Jim Peck's zoo with my sister. I love this place and we've gone the last couple summers. The kids loved it just as I thought they would.
On Sunday, we went to church and Tanner went to nursery for the first time! It was a wonderful morning! We celebrated my mom's birthday and I met up with my cousins at ChalkFest that night.
For Monday and Tuesday, Ashton went to the Vacation Bible School at my parent's church down the road. She had a good time and thought it was preschool again. Our last night in town, we went to Sam's Pizza and read to therapy dogs at a local library. Wednesday was our travel day to Utah. The kids slept on the plane, which was a nice treat. Planes seem to put Tanner to sleep no matter what time it is.
